Changes to State Pension Age and Eligibility for a Bus Pass

Changes to State Pension Age and Eligibility for a Bus Pass

FEBRUARY 2013 – the DfT have published the following notice:

In case you were not aware of the recent further changes to the state pension age, you should note that the attached DfT guidance which was published in March 2010 is now only accurate until March 2016.

Last year the Government made regulations to accelerate the rate of the rising state pension age of women. So the state pension age for women will reach 65 by 2018 rather then by 2020. This means that between April 2016 and November 2018 the state pension age of women will increase much faster – from 63 to 65 over the course of 18 months. All changes to state pension age have an automatic legislative link to the eligible age for a bus pass. We are in the process of updating our guidance on eligible age for a concessionary pass to reflect the pension age changes made last year and will publish this in due course.

In the meantime, if you want to double check an applicant’s eligible age for a bus pass please use the calculator at https://www.gov.uk/calculate-state-pension , which includes the further changes made to the female state pension age last year
